Worldwide Sales of Toyota Hybrid Vehicles Top 5 Million Units

Bangalore, April 17, 2013 - Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC) today announced that the cumulative global sales of its hybrid vehicles crossed the 5 million unit mark as of March 31, 2013, reaching 5.125 million units1.
Last year, hybrid vehicles accounted for 14 percent of TMC’s global vehicle sales and 40 percent of its vehicle sales in Japan. As of this month, TMC sells 19 hybrid passenger car models and one plug-in hybrid model in approximately 80 countries and regions around the world, and between now and December 2015, TMC will launch a total of 18 new hybrid vehicles worldwide and is committed to augmenting its product lineup even further and increasing the number of countries and regions where it sells hybrid vehicles. This expansion is based on TMC’s ultimate objective of promoting hybrid vehicles as a mass market adoption option and its underlying philosophy that environment-friendly vehicles can only truly have a positive impact if they are used and experienced widely.
TMC calculates that as of March 31, 2013, TMC hybrid vehicles2 have resulted in approximately 34 million fewer tons3 of CO2 emissions—believed to be a cause of climate change—than would have been emitted by gasoline-powered vehicles of similar size and driving performance. TMC also estimates that its hybrid vehicles have saved approximately 12 million kiloliters of gasoline compared to the amount used by gasoline-powered vehicles of similar size.
TMC launched the “Coaster Hybrid EV” during August 1997 in Japan and launched the “Prius”—the world’s first mass-produced hybrid passenger vehicle—in December, 1997. Since then, TMC hybrid vehicles have received tremendous support from consumers around the world.
Commenting on the achievement, Mr. Takeshi Uchiyamada, Vice Chairman, TMC who was responsible for development of the first-generation Prius, said, ““We developed the first-generation Prius with the aim of making it a car for the twenty-first century and as an indication of Toyota’s response to environmental issues. We had to develop a hybrid system from scratch, making our task extremely difficult. Nevertheless, we took on the challenge. The launch of the first-generation Prius had effects beyond our expectations, with the vehicle increasing consumer environmental awareness and raising hybrid vehicle expectations. The understanding of consumers at launch time laid the foundation for the widespread adoption, and, since then, consumers have continued to support TMC hybrid vehicles. Having positioned hybrid technologies that enable the use of different fuel combinations—including the component technologies necessary for development of various environment-friendly cars—as core environmental technologies for the twenty-first century, TMC plans to continue working to further raise performance, reduce costs, and expand its product lineup—including that of non-hybrid environment-friendly vehicles—to create vehicles that are popular with consumers.

Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) inks MoU with Mahindra & Mahindra Financial Services Limited

New Delhi, April 15th, 2013: Toyota Kirloskar Motor Pvt. Ltd. today announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Mahindra & Mahindra Financial Services Ltd. to extend auto retail finance to their prospective customers. Mahindra & Mahindra Financial Services Ltd. will be one of the preferred financiers for the entire range of vehicles sold by Toyota Kirloskar Motor Private Limited (TKM). Toyota Kirloskar Motor registers 7% growth in March 2013

April 1, 2013, Bangalore: Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) sold 19,452 units, in the domestic market, in March 2013 as compared to 18,220 units in the corresponding month in 2012, thereby registering a 7% growth.
The company exported 1,691 units in March 2013. The total sales registered were 21,143 units including exports.
Commenting on the sales in March 2013, Mr. Sandeep Singh, Deputy Managing Director and Chief Operating Officer, Marketing and Commercial said “Despite the slow demand in market, we have registered a growth. This growth can be mainly attributed to high customer acceptance of the New models of Etios and Etios Liva, launched recently. The Etios and Etios Liva sold 8,637 units in March. The sales of Innova and Fortuner have also contributed to this growth. On the other hand, increase in excise duty of SUV’s and implementation of increased road tax in some of the states has helped clear the stock of pre budget vehicles. The market continues to be slow, and is expected to remain sluggish in the coming months”.

New Delhi, 10th March 2013 - Toyota Kirloskar Motor Pvt. Ltd. today announced the launch of the New Etios and Etios Liva. The new vehicles were launched amid much fanfare at the final match of the month long cricket tournament – *Toyota University Cricket Championship (TUCC).

The Etios was launched in December 2010 followed by Etios Liva in June 2011. Since then, it has sold more than 1, 45,000 units. The Etios and Etios Liva, have been well accepted and appreciated by the customers and has been a great success in the Indian market.

The New Etios and Etios Liva have been designed to give it a bold and trendy appearance. New grades have been introduced to spruce up the entire line up and make it more youthful and trendy.

The vehicle is aimed at offering an exclusive product to today’s youth and is also meant to create more product excitement for the already popular Etios Liva. The Limited edition has been designed by Toyota Racing Development (TRD), Japan. The vehicle is set to make a statement with its racing – inspired design. Liva TRD Sportivo derives its name from its trendy look, designed by TRD, which lends it a young and sporty edge.

Key features of the Etios Liva TRD Sportivo are – 1.5 l, 90 PS engine, ABS, D+P Airbag,15” Smoked alloys, TRDAero Kit ,TRD Sprotivo logo on seats and Roof ornament.

New Etios and Etios Liva - The grades in petrol and diesel are being enhanced to give the customers a wider choice. The diesel line up will now have the newly introduced J grade at the entry level.

TKM is looking at improving its reach and is setting up new outlets in semi urban and rural areas. The company further plans to expand it to 235 dealerships by the end of March this year.

As a part of the ‘Value Added Services’ provided to the customers, TKM is also expanding ‘Toyota U Trust’ operations. Toyota U Trust aims to offer potential customers an opportunity to exchange their ‘Cars of any make’ for a brand new Toyota, allowing them an opportunity to upgrade. TKM currently has 42 outlets.
